Sri Sri Maa Anandamoyee & Thakur Sitaramdas Omkarnath Dev

The Samsad was conceived in the heart of Thakur Sitaramdas Onkarnath Dev, who prayed daily to the Almighty : "Let Sanskrit language flourish on earth." After his demise, as Sanskrit practice in Bengal gradually declined, the luminaries of the Bengali Sanskrit world assembled for a discussion meeting at the invitation of Professor Gopal Mitra, Thakur Onkarnath Dev's distinguished disciple. The meeting took place on August 28, 1986, with eminent scholars including Kinkar Mahimananda, Dr. Gourinath Sashtri, Professor Ramaranjan Mukherji, Pt. Srijiv Nayatirtha, Sri Taraknath Bandyopadhyay, Dr. Dhyanesh Narayan Chakraborty, Professor Gopal Mitra, Pt. Nityananda Smrititirtha, Pt. Ramranjan Kavya Vyakarantirtha, and Pt. Harisadhan Vedapurantirtha. The foundation of Sri Sri Sitaramdas Omkarnath Samskrita Siksha Samsad was laid that day. The organization was formally registered under the Society Registration Act on April 18, 1987.
